Text to 9-1-1 services are now available in Harris and Fort Bend counties, that include Houston and surrounding areas, through the Greater Harris County 9-1-1 Emergency Network and AGENT511.
During the first half of 2014 84% of 911 calls placed through GHC 9-1-1 originated from mobile phones. Text to 9-1-1 provides an alternative method to contact emergency services in situations where calls are unable to connect due to cellular network congestion or when a voice call could further endanger a citizen.
